Scholarships

Scholarships are financial aid awards that are meant to help students pay for their college degree. They may be awarded based on merit and/or financial need and, unlike student loans, scholarships do not need to be repaid. Merit-based scholarships might be granted based on academic achievements, athletics, extracurricular accomplishments, or community involvement. Need-based scholarships are awarded based on a number of factors, such as household income, that contribute to a student’s need for assistance in affording a college education.

Scholarships for LBUSD Students

From an early age, LBUSD students will have the chance to apply for scholarships through the Long Beach College Promise. Every year, LBUSD hosts an annual pledge drive with middle school students being encouraged to sign the College Promise, committing to pursuing a college education. At the end of the drive, a scholarship is awarded to one student from each middle and K-8 school.

Long Beach City College Scholarships

Long Beach City College also provides information about a variety of internal scholarships and external scholarships on the LBCC website. One application for internal scholarship opportunities may be submitted on the first day of the Fall semester, and the scholarship committee will work to match applicants with the appropriate scholarship based on students’ eligibility.

CSULB Scholarships

California State University Long Beach has information regarding available scholarships inside the Beach Scholarships portal as well as on the CSULB website. There are plenty of unique scholarships available for students, such as for student-athletes and those looking to study abroad. Be sure to reach out to the CSULB Financial Aid and Scholarships office to learn more about your options.

The Long Beach College Promise (LBCP) has allowed me to study my major and learn what I would like to do. I have been able to get very close to getting my associate's degree, thanks to it. By having the Long Beach College Promise as a resource, I have made a lot of big steps toward my plans.
